The Tidewater Community Band was formed in 1971 by area high school band directors to provide adult musicians the opportunity to continue performing beyond high school and college. In 1998, the name of the organization was changed to Tidewater Concert Band to reflect the band's growth. It is a unique, dedicated group of local musicians who enjoy performing and entertaining the public with the music of Broadway and Hollywood, traditional marches, popular light classics, familiar sounds of the Big Bands, and a mélange of other foot-tapping music. Under the musical direction of Maestro Ann E. Argodale, the band performs at various civic functions and events, adult care facilities, parades, sporting events and fairs. The band rehearses on Tuesday night at the Monumental United Methodist Church in Portsmouth from 7:30 to 9:30p.m. New members who wish to continue their musical enjoyment and education are welcomed. An informal audition may be required and participants must provide their own instruments.
