The York River Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1984 with the help of the York County School Board. Since then membership has grown from a small chamber orchestra to that of a full-instrumentation symphony orchestra. The orchestra is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for dedicated avocational musicians to perform on a volunteer basis in a first-class musical organization, providing high quality, low cost musical entertainment for our community at large. The York River Symphony Orchestra currently has fifty-seven performing members, a board of directors consisting of thirteen voting plus two ex-officio members, a board of advisors from the professional community, the York River Symphony Orchestra League, and countless volunteers who help to produce four programs, each performed twice, at varying locations in Hampton Roads throughout the year.
