The mission of Parks and Recreation is to build community amongst and enhance the quality of life for York County residents. This is accomplished through the delivery of recreational programs and operation of park facilities that encourages healthy lifestyles and provides opportunities for citizens to experience a sense of purpose, well being and pleasure.
Parks and Recreation oversees a variety programs, including youth and adult athletics, leisure classes, County park activities, York County Youth Commission, the Senior Center of York, and many others. The Tourism and Events section of the department is responsible for supporting and increasing tourism in historic Yorktown and the County. Tourism and Events develops, manages, and publicizes activities and special events that promote and encourage tourism and visitation.
