The Virginia Beach Convention Center features the 31,029 square foot ballroom, the largest in Virginia, a 56,516 square foot exhibition hall and 19,249 square feet of meeting space. Upon completion in early 2007, it will offer 516,522 gross square feet of space, including a 150,000 square-foot column-free exhibit hall, 28,929 square feet of meeting space and 2,230 free parking spaces.
The new Virginia Beach Convention Center has captured the essence of the coastal destination in its design and theme. Dynamic use of water, wood and natural light is integrated throughout the building. A soaring, nautical glass-curtain wall appears to float in pools of water both inside and outside the building, while guests walk across wooden boardwalks. The convention center also provides the latest in wired and wireless communications technologies. The wood-paneled 31,029-foot ballroom utilizes programmable LED lighting to provide special effects lighting never before used in a ballroom. Upon completion of the center, an expansive video wall outside the exhibit hall will feature four 90 ft. by 90 ft. sections providing both art and information to the pre-function area. Within the next few months, several sections of the video wall will be available.
The exhibit hall, divisible by four, boasts 40-foot ceilings, along with 10 ft. by 10 ft. grids permanently etched into the floor to facilitate setting up of exhibits. Easy access to the halls is provided through 21 loading docks and four street-level ramps. Each of the four hall subdivisions is supported by services including: meeting room suites, concessions, ample and handsomely appointed pre-function and registration spaces, show management offices overlooking the exhibit hall, conveniently located registration, storage rooms and other support areas.
